Morning Music Notes – Coachella Sells Out (Not In THAT Way)

I Hope You Bought Those Coachella Tickets on Friday…..

California weekend rock festival, Coachella, sold out in the length of time it takes me to tie my shoes – three hours (via Hollywood Reporter). The ticket supply for the now double weekend festival, taking place on both April 13-15 and April 20-22, is now in the hands of those trustworthy scalpers.

That’s a shame, because fans of Flying Lotus will now not hear the presentation of his second album at Coachella (via Pitchfork). FlyLo is following up his excellent 2010 release, Cosmogramma, which featured a song with Thom Yorke. I’m smelling Coachella collaboration!

Trent Reznor is Writing More Nine Inch Nails Material

Good news for fans of Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails outfit, rather than his recent movie soundtrack departures. It looks like Trent is going to write some more stuff for NIN (via Billboard).

“Reznor says that he did think about adopting yet another moniker for his upcoming writing but decided that “at the moment it’s going to live in the Nine Inch Nails column, for a few reasons. I enjoy the challenge of moving that kind of brand forward, that identity, shaping it to who I am now instead of who I was a few years ago when I last left off.” But, he adds, “It’s all kind of hypothetical right now. When I sit down with a notebook and a little mini-recorder is when my bluff will be called, and then it might not happen at all.”

But first – a release from the side project with his wife, Mariqueen Maandig, and their How to Destroy Angels outfit.

Surprise! Bruce Springsteen Shows Up at the Light of Day Parkinson’s Benefit

To hardcore fans, this was no surprise – Bruce was wearing pants. The annual Light of Day Parkinson’s benefit takes place in Asbury Park in New Jersey, and Mr. Springsteen has been known to show up quite frequently. Well, he did it again on the weekend, and jammed until 2 AM (via Billboard). Bruce and the E Street Band are making several festival appearances this year, so if you missed their first song of 2012, you won’t have to stumble upon a surprise gig to catch them again.

Lana Del Rey Was Not Loved By Everyone on her Saturday Night Live Debut

Recent music media darling, Lana Del Rey, made her first appearance on SNL this past weekend. Did she live up to the hype? Not in Juliette Lewis’ eyes. The actress/singer took to Twitter, as all respectable debaters do, to say “Wow watching this ‘singer’ on SNL is like watching a 12 yearold in their bedroom when theyre pretending to sing and perform #signofourtimes” (via NME).

Lana Del Rey’s appearance was questioned by some, given her lack of a proper album release, and established music career. “”I got it because I’m a good musician,” she said. “And I may not have a record out now, but I have been singing for a very long time, and I think that Lorne Michaels knows that, and everyone over there knows that.”

So there! Depending on where you live, you can check out her performances on Saturday Night Live below.
