Morning Music Notes – Drugs Can Make You Forget Things

Chris Martin Big Ups Kanye West

Whenever someone has an album coming out, they want to maximize their press. There is no such thing as bad press (well, almost no such thing). Bands usually like to take two angles – one is to compliment everyone they know. The other is to rip everyone apart and have the ‘argument’ drag out in the press for many weeks. Squeaky clean Coldplay and lead singer Chris Martin have chosen the compliment way. Chris Martin has said that Kanye West has changed the way we listen to music (via Gigwise).

”Don’t you think that music now shouldn’t fall into a particular box? I don’t think anyone thinks like that any more. You don’t see so many goths, hippies, rockers and hip hoppers any more. People like Kanye West are changing the way we all listen and the internet.”

He added: ”Look at Tinie Tempah. Just the song Pass Out has about eight different types of music in it. This time, we’re on our fifth record, we’re all in our early to mid-30s so there’s an element of, ‘If we don’t make it now we’ve got to give up.”

Based on what we’re heard so far (bar the lukewarm Every Teardrop tune), it sounds like we could be in for a ‘different’ Coldplay album, which would be fine by me.

Noel Calls Oasis a Sham, Liam Responds, No One Cares

Now above, PHM mentioned how there are two ways to promote records. I’m pretty sure the Gallagher brothers are only aware of one. Heck, even their fights with each other made the press – how is that for continual, free headlines? Noel’s album just came out in the UK yesterday (the same day I tried heroin for the first time!). Noel thinks that Oasis was a bit of a sham at the end, since the brothers hated each other (via Gigwise).

“There’s always a power struggle in a band, and when you’re young and daft and hopped up on drugs and alcohol, it can get violent. But when you’re all grown men with kids, it just doesn’t feel right. I found it quite undignified. We’re supposed to be the elder statesmen now! All this effing and blinding before gigs, and then going up and singing ‘Live Forever’. It was all a bit of a sham, really.”

End of story, right? Nope, this is Oasis / the Brothers Gallagher we are dealing with. Stories get played out in the press ad nauseam. Liam decided to respond, via Twitter, the most dignified way these days.

“A sham? Speak for yourself, I never faked anything, go to bed and give me a shout in 2015.”

I guess you can only fit so much into those tweets, so logic and good insults don’t necessary always make the cut.

The real question is – will Noel do better in the charts than Beady Eye did? The Beady Eye album was out this past February and hit #3 in the UK, #20 in Canada, and #31 in the USA. No number ones anywhere outside of Liam’s head.

Eminem Was an Ambien Addict

Captain Obvious, Eminem, has said that taking the drug Ambien in large doses has caused him some memory loss (via NME).

“…a lot of my memory is gone. I don’t know if you’ve ever taken Ambien, but it’s kind of a memory-eraser. That shit wiped out five years of my life. People will tell me stories, and it’s like, “I did that?” I saw myself doing this thing on [television network] BET recently, and I was like, “When was that?”

During the peak of his drug addiction, he revealed that he was taking up to 60 Valium and 30 Vicodin pills a day. In 2007, he overdosed on methadone. “The doctors told me I’d done the equivalent of four bags of heroin,” says Eminem. “They said I was about two hours from dying.”

Hmm, maybe I should NOT have tried heroin yesterday….

The ‘Recovery’ artist revealed that Elton John was one of the people who helped him to overcome his addictions. “He usually calls me once a week to check on me, just to make sure I’m on the up-and-up,” says Eminem. “He was actually one of the first people I called when I wanted to get clean.”

Who would’ve thought that gay bashing and then doing a forced public duet with Elton John would’ve lead to an ACTUAL friendship? Life is funny, eh Em?

And in case you don’t know what Eminem has been up to lately, don’t forget he had the recent Bad Meets Evil album with Royce da 5’9″. Below is their latest video, featuring Bruno Mars, called Lighters.
