Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits to be Streamed Live on YouTube

The excellent Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, and the also-good Austin City Limits festival in – you guessed it – Austin, Texas will be streamed live via Youtube this year, says the Hollywood Reporter.

“The online video site said Friday it has teamed up with producer C3 Presents, as well as tech companies Dell and AMD to bring the big music events to millions of fans via an exclusive high definition live stream. Lollapalooza, taking place Aug. 5-7, is celebrating its 20th year and will feature Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Deadmau5, Cee Lo Green and The Cars, among others. ACL’s 10th anniversary edition, scheduled for Sept. 16-18, will include such performers as Arcade Fire, Kanye West, Coldplay, Cee Lo and Stevie Wonder.”

“YouTube will offer two feeds from each festival – one focused on live content and performances, and the other focused on backstage content, including interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at the action. It said it is planning for eight hours of content each day. Ahead of each festival, fans can on YouTube catch a week of behind the scenes footage, teaser videos, new content from bands and special messages from artists.”

Having driven from Toronto to Chicago for Lollapalooza (9-10 hours) and from Toronto to Austin (many days) for Austin City Limits, I’m glad to know that the price of gas won’t deter me from at least watching these festivals. Check out a video of the fun you might be missing if you stay to watch Lollapalooza on your couch.
