Morning Music Notes – Nevermind Makes Me Feel Old

What broke up blink-182 originally? Egos? Creative differences? Girlfriend stealing? The correct answer is D: none of the above. The more correct answer is “the machine”. Were they fighting over a time travel or other cool machine?! No, they are speaking in metaphors. Tom Delonge tells NME that the band were burnt out, but the machine wouldn’t let them stop touring, and they had a communication break down which lead to a break up. blink-182 have revealed the name of their new album is Neighborhoods.

New Music Service in China Will Crush Us All

Yahoo News is reporting that China’s Baidu Inc., which is a search engine, will distribute music from three global music labels. Baidu has a fierce rivalry with Google, who do not operate their search engine within China.

“Baidu said it will distribute music from One-Stop China — a joint venture between Universal Music, Warner Music and Sony Music — and pay them for the content. The downloads are available only to computers with Internet addresses in China. Baidu and the music companies also agreed to end outstanding litigation between them. China is seen as a major potential market for online music and video but legitimate suppliers have been hampered by rampant piracy.”

“Baidu had 75.9 percent of China’s search market in the three months ending in June, while Google was in second place with 18.9 percent, according to Analysys International, a research firm in Beijing. About 500,000 songs from the music companies’ global, Mandarin and Cantonese catalogs will be made available through Baidu at the start and expect that to rise to 1 million titles as new releases are added, according to Chan.”

Happy 93rd Birthday Mr. Nelson Mandela

When I was in South Africa last summer, I was fortunate enough to see the home of Nelson Mandela. I also saw many monuments, and general love and respect the nation has for Nelson Mandela. Long time admirers U2 dedicated a song to Mandela at their show in Philadelphia on Sunday night. Check it out below.
